TG Builders Merchants are proud to announce that we have been shortlisted as finalists in the Training Initiative of the Year category at the 2025 Builders’ Merchants Awards, the UK’s most prestigious industry event celebrating excellence across the building materials sector.

Now in its 23rd year, the Builders’ Merchants Awards are the longest-running and most respected awards in the industry, recognising individuals, teams and companies who go above and beyond to serve their customers and communities. This year’s theme, integrity, celebrates those who consistently put the customer first—a value that lies at the heart of everything TG Builders Merchants does.

The Training Initiative of the Year nomination recognises TG Builders Merchants’ commitment to investing in people as the foundation of long-term success. Since October 2024, the company has delivered a multi-layered training strategy designed to strengthen leadership, enhance technical knowledge, and promote collaboration across branches.

Highlights of the initiative include:

• Leadership Development: Nine team members completed the BMF Management Development Programme, transforming from hesitant contributors into confident, proactive branch leaders. One participant has already been promoted, and all are now driving measurable improvements in performance and staff development.
• Supplier-Led Product Training: Branch managers now host at least one supplier training session per month, deepening product knowledge and improving customer service standards across all sites.
• Specialist Timber Training: Ten employees completed an in-depth timber programme with Arbor, including a study trip to Sweden—strengthening both product expertise and team relationships.

The impact of this training culture has been significant, with staff reporting improved morale, confidence, and inter-branch collaboration, alongside clearer career progression opportunities.

The Builders’ Merchants Awards will take place on Thursday 28th November 2025 in London, where winners from across the UK industry will be announced.
