Coracle World Championships Raise Over £23,000 for Macmillan – TG Group Team Crowned Top Fundraisers and Race Champions
It has been confirmed that this year’s Coracle World Championships has raised an impressive £23,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, with the TG Group team playing a major role in the event’s success by contributing a remarkable £3,110 — the highest team total of the day.
The TG Group team, made up of Harry Griffiths, Olly Griffiths, James Bright and Jay Barrow, not only dominated on the fundraising leaderboard but also clinched first place in the hotly contested race on the River Severn in Shrewsbury, securing the coveted world title.
The event, which has raised more than £450,000 for Macmillan since 2007, supports people in Shropshire affected by cancer. Each year around 3,140 local people receive a cancer diagnosis, and Macmillan provides emotional, financial and practical support to anyone who needs it. In 2024, over 1,000 Shropshire residents contacted the Macmillan Support Line for help and guidance.
Tudor Griffiths, Managing Director of TG Group said: “We’re extremely proud to have supported such an important cause and thrilled to come away with both the winners’ trophy and the title of top fundraisers. Huge thanks go to everyone who donated, and to the Macmillan team and volunteers who make this incredible event possible.”
The Coracle World Championships remains one of Shropshire’s most unique charity events, with competitors navigating traditional coracle boats across the river in a challenging test of balance and teamwork — all in the name of raising vital funds.
